Chimney is a sleepy Himalayan hamlet, 8km from Kurseong, gets its name from a 23-foot high 100 year’s old chimney that was probably built during World War I and used by British officers. Bagora is a small village located at the highest altitude (7,150 ft) of Kurseong subdivision.

Beside chimney there is a viewpoint, you can see Sandakphu in a sunny day. Despite its age, It is restored to its original glory by the Forest Department as ‘Chimney Heritage Garden’. Fascinating in every way, Chimney is nature lovers’ paradise. The place overlooks the two significant rivers of the region- Teesta and Mahananda. It is endowed with many viewpoints from where you can enjoy a spectacular view of Kanchenjunga peaks.

How to go-

You can take the Hill Cart Road and go towards Darjeeling for about 25 minutes and then take a right turn at Dilaram. An uphill narrow road leads up to Bagora in another 15 minutes or so. The total distance is about 17kms from Kurseong. The quaint village is well known for its variety of birds, forest of oak and pine and of course the rhododendrons. In winter, you can see oranges as well. .

Places of interests-

On a day visit you can roam around Chatakpur – a pretty Himalayan village with great views of the Himalayas, Dowhill Deer Park, Forest Museum and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Museum. Also you can cover few most Renowned Tea Estates of eastern India like Castleton Tea Estate, Monteviot Tea Estate, Singell Tea Estate and Makaibari Tea Estate.
