History of Chongtong Tea garden-

The history of Chongtong Tea Estate goes back to the year 1882-83,when it was established by James.T,this was run by British Company till 1954. The garden was originally named Chun Thang, which is derived from Lepcha name. This tea garden is located in beautiful slope of Rangeet river

Outdoor Activity:

Local Hikes and Treks: The tourists can relax with a cup of hot Darjeeling tea in their hand sitting in the balcony or take a hike by foot in the surrounding area to the nearby rivers, the forest or nearby viewpoints to get the lay of the land, as well as enjoy nature in all her unchecked glory. There are a number of trekking routes here. Especially on the way to Sandakphu, which provides a great opportunity to get intimate with nature and take in fresh air to purify the lungs.

Bird Watching and Wildlife:The surrounding forest is filled with a number of exotic bird species which includes various thrushes, sunbirds, shrikes, pheasants, babblers, owls etc. Listening to the melodies sitting on the porch or venturing in the jungle to take a snap of the fleeting wings can be rewarding. If luck favours, one may catch a glimpse of the Red panda too as this place falls in the territory.

Riverside Camping: The property organizes riverside camping for those who are interested in getting close to nature and listen to the waves sing, sitting under the stars.

Tea Tasting: With prior arrangement, travellers can visit local tea estates to participate in a tea tasting season as well as information about the plucking, pruning, collecting and processing of the World famous Darjeeling tea.

How to Reach:

Rail: The nearest rail-station is New Jalpaiguri Jn. From there it is nearly 84 km away which takes 3 hours and 30 minutes to reach by car.

Air: The nearest airport is Bagdogra, 91 km away and takes a car 4 hours to reach the place.

Road:  From Kolkata, the property is approximately 640 km away and it takes around 17 hours to reach by NH12 or NH19.
