Ahaldara is a hilltop situated 5 kms away from Latpanchar with an exotic 360 degree view. Ahaldara is famous for its breathtaking view of sunrise and snow-capped Kanchenjunga peaks. On a clear sunny day the Gangtok, Kalimpong, Algara, Bagora, Tinchuley hills are visible from Ahaldara. It is located in Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary.It’s a bird watcher's paradise.
Mahananda WLS is home to 36 mammals and more than 240 species of birds, the most sought after being the endangered Rufous-necked Hornbill. Namthing Pokhari, a seasonal Lake situated a few kilometres away from Latpanchar is one of the final refuges of the extremely rare Himalayan Salamander.
How to Reach Ahaldara/ Latpanchar
Nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) located around 45 km and nearest airport is Bagdogra (IXB) located around 55 km from Latpanchar. You can reach here from Siliguri through Sevoke - Kalijhora on NH 31/A, it may take around 2-2.5 hrs. to reach.
We also arrange pick-up or drop service from our homestay to Siliguri/NJP/Bagdogra, rate starting from Rs.1,500 – Rs.2,000 depending on car type.
Best Season to Visit Ahaldara/ Latpanchar
Latpanchar can be visited throughout the year, except monsoon. Although best time is October to May, in winter also can be visited but carry enough woollen clothes
