Tikarpada (Satkosia Gorge) Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most important tourist sites in Odisha and spreads across an area of 795.52 sq km. It is located on the banks of River Mahanadi, about 140 km from Bhubaneswar. The sanctuary is famous for its gharial or crocodile species. Besides these, tourists can also spot  tigers, pangolins, leopards, spotted deer, elephants, rhesus, macaques, snakes, turtles etc. The sanctuary is circled by the Satkosia gorge, which has been formed by River Mahanadi. The Gharwale Sanctuary located here is a breeding place for gharials. One can also spot a variety of snakes and turtles in it. There is also a preservation center here to help preserve the gharial population.  On the left side of the gorge lies the Tikarpada Crocodile Sanctuary, known for its amazing forest and teeming wildlife. One can also take part in various adventure sports here like river rafting, trekking, fish angling, boating etc.

Satkosia Tiger Reserve-Satkosia Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserve located in the Angul district of Odisha, India covering an area of 988.30 km². It is located where the Mahanadi River passes through a 22 km long gorge in the Eastern Ghats mountains. The tiger reserve is located in the Eastern Highlands moist deciduous forests ecoregion.

How to Reach Satkosia

The Tiger Reserve is mainly accessible on the North from Angul town, the district headquarter  via Pampasar, the main entry gate, which is about 30 kms. from  Angul.  Angul is 160 kms from State Capital, Bhubaneswar. Similarly, the Southern Part of the Tiger Reserve on the other side of River Mahanadi is approachable from Chhamundia. It is the main entry gate of Mahanadi Wildlife Division  through Nayagarh, the District headquarter, which is 90kms away from the State Capital. Also can be approached from Kusanga which is 70 kms. from Boudh, the District Head Quarter.  The nearest Rail head on the Northern side is Angul and Khurda Road in South.   One can travel by air to the Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar to proceed to the Satkosia Tiger Reserve..
