Raimatang Forest Village in Dooars
Raimatang is a small forest village inside the Buxa Tiger Reserve surrounded by towering lush hills of Bhutan. Its beauty lies in its mix of forests, hills, rivers and tea gardens. Moreover, it is on the western side of Sinchula hills that adds to its solitude. It comes under Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal covers a distance of 146 kms from siliguri. Basically Raimatang village has been popular place for the adventures tourist who is nature lover fond of silence environment, cheerful with sounds of birds insects, glimpse of colourful butterflies, curious of different trees small forest house etc. Raimatang is not so called tourist destination as there is no such tourist point to see but it is the destination for tourist looking for sojourn amidst nature away from crowded tourist spot, as there is only real scenery to enjoy abundant natural beauty, urban life. Raimatang is increasing its popularity because of its inexplicable beauty.
Attractions and Activities
There are forest safaris available to the nearby watchtowers. But you are already deep inside the forest and it is not unlikely for you to see some wildlife near your eco-resort or homestay. The area is famous for butterflies and you may watch plenty of them on the riverbed too. Visit inside the forest especially early morning for a variety of common as well as rare species of birds.
If you are the adventurous type, treks can be organized from here to different parts of the Buxa forest area including villages such as Chunabhati, Lalbungalo and eventually reach Buxa fort.
Best time to visit Raimatang
Raimatang is cut off during the monsoons, usually mid-June to mid-September as there are no bridges on the River and mostly the river water flows much above the suitable level.
However, Raimatang can be reached the other nine months of the year and it is truly the last few destinations in the Dooars region, where you can still witness wildlife in their natural habitat.
How To Reach Raimatang
It is located 45 km away from Alipurduar. Kalchini is the nearest town. you have to cross the Raimatang river to reach our property.
In the way of Raimatang you can ask for “Gach Manush”, who stay inside the tree from last 20 yrs, but last Dec 2018, he is no more.
